Life Whisperer’s abstract on Artificial Intelligence in IVF nominated for two awards at ESHRE in Vienna
A Life Whisperer abstract about the use of artificial intelligence in IVF for embryo assessment, presented at the 35th European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) Annual Meeting on June 24, 2019, was pre-selected for consideration for two prestigious awards at the event.
The abstract was a joint study with IVF clinics worldwide, including Ovation Fertility (USA), Monash IVF Group (Australia), Fertility Associates (New Zealand), Alpha Fertility (Malaysia), Midwest Fertility Specialists (USA), Institute of Reproductive Health (USA), and Oregon Reproductive Medicine (USA).
Dr Matthew “Tex” VerMilyea from Ovation presented the paper at the ESHRE conference, which was attended by more than 10,000 delegates from 124 countries. The study found the AI was 30.8% more accurate in assessing embryo viability than traditional embryologist morphology assessment.
Life Whisperer’s CEO Dr Michelle Perugini said, “This is the only study of its kind that reports the true accuracy of the AI, based solely on pregnancy outcomes, without relying on any subjective embryologist assessment. As a result, we were able to compare the AI directly and independently to highly skilled embryologists’ manual visual assessment methods.”
Life Whisperer’s CTO and inventor Dr Jonathan Hall said, “Life Whisperer is the only hardware-independent AI for embryo assessment that has been shown to predict pregnancy outcomes from static 2D embryo images using standard laboratory microscopes. Other technologies are hardware dependent and rely on expensive time-lapse imaging systems, which limits their scalability to clinics globally”.
